It was late enough in season to cause losses, but not yet catastrophic losses. Much of the book is concerned with relatively normal agricultural statistics and concerns like livestock improvement and control of pests, but you can start to see mentions of abandoned farmland and bankruptcies starting to rock the agricultural world that will spread as the Dust Bowl sets in."
